Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed he wasn’t impressed with what he saw from Robert Sanchez against Arsenal.

The Blues battled to a hard earned point against The Gunners on Sunday, which moved them into third place in the Premier League.

Despite their good start to the season there were once again more questions about the performance of Sanchez, with the Spain international receiving heavy criticism this season.

Foster not impressed with Sanchez against Arsenal

The decision was taken over the summer that Sanchez would be number one this season, despite the signing of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

Sanchez showed in his debut season at the club that he was prone to making errors and that hasn’t changed so far this campaign.

The 26-year-old was at fault for both goals the Blues conceded against Brighton, whilst he conceded a penalty against Manchester United, and should have done better for Curtis Jones’ winner at Anfield.

The common consensus amongst fans is that Sanchez needs to be replaced, whilst former Chelsea keeper Mark Schwarzer feels the Blues need to replace the Spaniard if they are to compete at the highest level.

Sanchez has made a number of costly errors this season.

Despite the criticism Maresca has defended Sanchez and insisted he’s happy with his performances, so it’s unlikely a change will come anytime soon.

Against Arsenal Sanchez was beaten far too easily at his near post, and it was yet another mistake which lead to Chelsea conceding a goal.

Former keeper Foster wasn’t impressed with how Sanchez tried to close down the angle and revealed what he should have done instead.

“I don’t like the way he automatically reverted to a spread instead of actually backing himself and saying, you know what, I am going to stand my ground, I am going to react to something,” he told The Football Fill-In.

It’s unclear what it will take for Sanchez to be dropped but he can’t afford to keep making mistakes with the table so tight right now, and with just four points separating third and thirteenth it could prove very costly for Chelsea.
