Birmingham fans looking forward to playing Newcastle United in the FA Cup fourth round.
A crowd of 17,032 saw a 2-1 home win over Lincoln in the third round.
However, Birmingham fans seeing the ‘sold out’ signs quickly go up for this clash with United
Birmingham fans are full of optimism these days, their team looking set to return to the second tier, as they are top of League One with an eight point gap to third and have two games in hand on the three clubs directly below them.
How though are they viewing this upcoming FA Cup distraction against Eddie Howe and his team?
Birmingham fans talking ahead of facing Newcastle United in the FA Cup, commenting via their Small Heath Alliance message board:
‘This will clearly be a test of how far we have come since last season and how far along our we are on our journey to becoming a top end Championship side in the coming seasons. It is by far our hardest game of the season!
I think Newcastle will rotate and we’ll be at our strongest with who we have fit but to even get anything from the game they will have to have a collective stinker and we’ll have to be at our very very best in all departments.
We’ll create chances as Newcastle obviously won’t be sat in a low block and it will be good to see how well we can play out from the back as they will obviously be much better at pressing us than any opponent we have or will face this season. Likewise it will be interesting to see how well our press works against better opponents.
I’m going for a 1v3 home defeat. We’ll put up a good fight, create chances and hopefully have a fantastic atmosphere in the ground.’
‘I actually think this is our best chance, given their result against Arsenal. As you say, a lot of rotation and they’ll now enter that period where no one wants to get injured or booked and risk missing the final.
I think if we get at and into them early and make it battle, they might shirk. 1-1, Blues on pens.’
‘I think we’ll score first, they’ll score all before half time and it’s going to be a last minute goal from either side that decides it.
2-1 either way.’
‘Blues 0 Newcastle 3’
‘I just want it to be competitive. Live on prime time terrestrial, we need to be in a game. If it’s 3 or 4 it’ll be a bit deflating.
We know we can do that, it’s just how well it comes together on the day.
Going to go for a close 2-1 defeat.’
‘I think we will win 3-2’
‘4-1 to newcasaur’
‘Has there been a game at St Andrews that has had more intoxicated fans in the stadium than will be there this Saturday?
The Carling Cup QF and SF would be up there, but an early evening sell out on a Saturday with all day drinking an option is not something I can remember.’
‘Will certainly be a raucous atmosphere, just hope we give them a game.’
‘I’d say Saturday will be the most drunk ever St Andrews, everyone has to play their part!’
‘I’m taking it easy, I’m starting tonight.’
‘Let’s just not embarrass our owners. We’ve got to play our part and not behave like a load of half wits on day release.’
‘Blues win 2-1
Stansfield, last minute Klarer winner’
‘4-1 to Newcastle’
‘Had 2-4 in my head since draw was made so stick with it.’
‘3-0 Blues.
We’re gonna prove how good we really are.’
‘I think we’ll do Okay. But they’ll beat us quite comfortably. 1-3;
‘We are going to beat these and by a lot.’
‘Watching them against arsenal they pressed really high and forced arsenal into mistakes at the back, if they do that with us we will be knackered. a comfortable 3-0 to them.’
‘I think you’ll see us go longer for this reason, we will try to play into the space that they vacate, Anderson and Stansfield make those runs all the time.’
‘I just want us to make a good game of it.
They wont be putting 11 men behind the ball, so it should be a good open game. 2-1 to them i think, and that will be no disgrace.
Just hope the fans are up for it, and we drown out the fat, bare chested, northern k.obs’
‘If they play a ‘weakened’ side then maybe Blues keep it down to 2 or 3 conceded; if they play a team approaching anything like ‘full strength’ then I can see this being 0-4 down inside 20 minutes and the sellout crowd chanting ‘What the eff is this?’
As it’s on national free to air tv it’ll probably be the latter one.’
‘This is the most relaxed I’ve been for a game all season, if we lose nobody will be surprised, it’s a great test for us one I’m sure we will deal with. Heart says we win but the head says we win too, so let’s enjoy the moment and look forward to the 5th round.’
‘Klarer to let Isak out his pocket at full time.’
‘Tell you what that crack is really moreish.’
‘Also think we’ll come out of it with some pride but we’ll see levels. Can see us conceding playing out the back, not that we shouldn’t try, but Newcastle will be much better at pressing than L1 opposition and it’ll be tough.
Do have a hope that we will score though. 1-3 Newcastle.’
