Supporters of Real Madrid have taken to social media in numbers on Wednesday evening, to single one member of the club’s squad out for special praise.

The player in question? Andriy Lunin.

Goalkeeper Lunin was for his part afforded a rare start tonight, as Thibaut Courtois was given the night off for Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg meeting with Real Sociedad.

And to say that the Ukrainian went on to justify his inclusion would be something of an understatement.

When all was said and done at Anoeta, visitors Real Madrid emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result.

And whilst it was youngster Endrick who made the difference when it comes to the game’s goalscoring, it was that man Lunin who proved himself decisive at the other end.

Providing a timely reminder of his brilliance from last season, the 26-year-old conjured up a whole host of superb saves to hold Real Sociedad at bay.

And such exploits have not gone at all unappreciated on the part of the Blancos faithful.
