Bologna Executive Delivers Insight into Former Inter Star Future | OneFootball

Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio offered a significant transfer update on former Inter midfielder Giovanni Fabbian. Speaking in a press conference via FCInterNews, Di Vaio confirmed the 22-year-old has drawn plenty of inquires in recent months.

“There were a lot of offers for him,” the Bologna executive stated. “But the player never expressed any desire to leave. And he’s a player we count on.

“In the first part of the season, he got more playing time in Europe than in the league,” Di Vaio continued. “Which was all to do with Jens Odgaard’s explosion in form. However, Giovanni never asked us to leave.”

Inter sold Fabbian to Bologna in the summer of 2023 after the youngster failed to secure regular first-team football under Simone Inzaghi. However, the reigning Scudetto holders included a buyback clause in the agreement.

Indeed, Inter can re-sign Fabbian in the summer for a reported fee of €12 million. With Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the autumn of his career and Davide Frattesi’s future in the balance, Fabbian’s return to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is a distinct possibility.

Despite enjoying an impressive maiden season at Renato Dall’Ara, Fabbian hasn’t had many first-team opportunities this season. Yet, the former remains a valuable asset for Vincenzo Italiano’s side, especially now that they bid to secure a second consecutive European finish in Serie A.

However, Bologna wouldn’t be able to do much if Inter decide to trigger the clause at the end of the season. It’ll be up to Inzaghi to determine whether he wants the Italian Under-21 international back or not.
