The first half of the encounter was a tense and closely contested affair, with both sides creating a number of chances but failing to break the deadlock.

St. Pauli’s Carlo Boukhalfa was notably active, sending a shot over the bar from outside the box in the 43rd minute, following a neat assist from Philipp Treu. Just moments earlier, the visitors had another opportunity when Hauke Wahl’s right-footed shot from the centre of the box was blocked after a pass from Morgan Guilavogui.

Bremen's defence was put to the test several times, with both sides having a number of shots blocked inside the box. But despite a few challenges and moments of chaos in the box, both teams failed to find the breakthrough, with several attempts either blocked or saved by the goalkeepers.

As the first half drew to a close, the game remained goalless, with both teams continuing to search for that elusive opening goal. Despite the attacking efforts, neither side was able to convert, and the match remained finely poised heading into the second half.

The second half began with both teams looking to make an impact. Werder Bremen earned an early corner after Niklas Stark's header from the centre of the box was saved by Nikola Vasilj. Shortly after, Mitchell Weiser won a free kick in the defensive half for Werder Bremen, after being fouled by Eric Smith.

In the 52nd minute, St. Pauli’s David Nemeth had a shot from outside the box that went wide, while shortly afterward, Noah Weißhaupt’s effort from the centre of the box was blocked by the Werder defense.

Werder Bremen continued to press, with Jens Stage winning a free kick on the right wing after being fouled by Siebe Van der Heyden. A few minutes later, St. Pauli’s Danel Sinani was awarded a free kick on the left wing after being fouled by Stage.

In the 58th minute, Werder's Justin Njinmah tested St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj with a left-footed shot from the centre of the box, but the keeper was equal to the task, saving it in the bottom right corner. Njinmah had another opportunity in the 59th minute, this time with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box, but his attempt missed to the right.

A foul by Werder’s Jens Stage gave St. Pauli a free kick in the 61st minute, as Eric Smith was fouled in their defensive half. St. Pauli made their first substitution of the half in the 62nd minute, with Elias Saad replacing Noah Weißhaupt.

In the 63rd minute, Manolis Saliakas of St. Pauli was shown a yellow card for a foul on Felix Agu, and Werder were awarded a free kick. Werder continued to control possession, with Justin Njinmah winning another free kick in the defensive half after a foul by Siebe Van der Heyden.

Werder made their first substitution of the half in the 69th minute, with Oliver Burke coming on for Justin Njinmah. Shortly after, Mitchell Weiser was awarded a free kick on the right wing after being fouled by Elias Saad.

Oliver Burke had a chance to break the deadlock in the 71st minute, but his right-footed shot from the right side of the box was blocked by the St. Pauli defence, assisted by Marvin Ducksch’s headed pass.

With both teams still looking for the breakthrough, Bremen thought they had taken the lead through Burke in the 80th minute, however a VAR check showed that the forward was marginally offside.

Despite several attempts and a few changes in personnel, the game ended with no goals scored, as both teams struggled to find the final touch in a hard-fought contest.
