Brighton are unbeaten in four meetings with Newcastle, winning three of them, while the Magpies have never won in Sussex in the Premier League in seven attempts.

As we enter the final month of the campaign, these two clubs both have European aspirations, making victory for both of vital importance by the South Coast. Brighton have already won twice on Tyneside this season, 1-0 in the league in October and 2-1 in the FA Cup in March, so will fancy their chances of a clean sweep.

Last weekend, the Seagulls ended their five-match winless streak by beating West Ham in dramatic fashion. 2-1 down with a minute to go, Kaoru Mitoma managed to equalise before, deep into stoppage time, Carlos Baleba's stunning curler snatched victory.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Newcastle United preview

This victory keeps the Albion's European dreams alive, as they've moved up to ninth, only below Fulham on goal difference, and they are the current occupants of the final potential European position. After this, Fabian Hürzeler's team will face Wolves (A), Liverpool (H) and Tottenham (A), so they're very much still in the hunt for a top eight finish, but victory here would really help their cause.

As for Newcastle United, their historic EFL Cup triumph means they're already guaranteed to be returning to the continent, but are now seeking to wrap up a Champions League spot. Last weekend, the Magpies pushed aside ten-man Ipswich at St James' Park, with Alexander Isak, Dan Burn and then William Osula all on target. This was Eddie Howe's first game back on the touchline having recovered from pneumonia, as the Toon Army claimed a sixth win in seven league matches.

This propelled Newcastle up to third, albeit a defeat here could see them end the weekend outside the Champions League places. After this, the Magpies' remaining fixtures are Chelsea (H), Arsenal (A) and then Everton (H), so can they take a huge step towards a top five finish with a win in Sussex?

Brighton & Hove Albion team news

Fabian Hürzeler is still without Adam Webster, Ferdi Kadıoğlu, Igor, James Milner and Georginio Rutter while João Pedro remains suspended. In better news, Jan Paul van Hecke could return, after suffering a nasty concussion at Brentford a fortnight ago, thereby allowing Carlos Baleba to return to midfield.

Out-wide, Solly March and Simon Adingra were surprise starters against West Ham, but the usual first-choice wingers Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma could be return to the lineup.

After naming an unchanged lineup for seven straight matches, Eddie Howe made one enforced alteration against Ipswich, with Joe Willock deputising for Joelinton, who could miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Meantime, in defence, Sven Botman came off the bench last weekend, his first appearance since 5 February due to a broken kneecap, so will he see more minutes?

Lastly, in attack, Anthony Gordon still has not started since being sent off against Brighton in the FA Cup, with Harvey Barnes' form keeping the previously undroppable Gordon in reserve.
