Bruno Guimaraes praises ‘amazing’ Newcastle United duo after reaching Carabao Cup final | OneFootball

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes hailed boss Eddie Howe and striker Alexander Isak as “amazing” after reaching the Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies won the second leg at St James Park 2-0 thanks to goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon, following their 2-0 first-leg win at the Emirates.

Newcastle took the lead when Alexander Isak’s strike cannoned off the post and fell to Jacob Murphy, who finished into an empty net.

Anthony Gordon then added a second for Newcastle shortly after half-time to put the game, and the final, out of sight for Arsenal, seizing on a poor pass from David Raya to steal the ball off Declan Rice before picking out the bottom corner.

Isak played a key part in the victory and caused the central defensive duo of Gabriel and William Saliba plenty of problems.

And team-mate Guimaraes says there is not a better striker than him.

“For me he’s the best striker around,” he told Sky Sports.

“Nobody is performing better than him. We are lucky to have him and I hope he can keep it going.”

On his boss Howe, the Brazilian continued: “He’s amazing. We could not have a better manager.

“Today he won the game before the match; our shape was perfect. He deserves all the credit.”

Guimaraes was part of the Newcastle team which reached the final of the same competition in 2023, where they lost to Manchester United.

And the Magpies midfielder says it would be a “dream” to go one better this time.

“It would be a dream to lift a trophy and put my name in the club’s history. It would be amazing in my first season as captain. Hopefully we can do this.

“Our fans made the difference tonight, they were unbelievable. The gaffer was very smart, everything he planned went perfectly. Here we go, another final for this club; hopefully we can win this one. It would be amazing.”
