Carlo Ancelotti has insisted he has not asked those in charge of Real Madrid to sign any new players in the January transfer window, despite speculation Los Blancos could launch an ambitious bid for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold is approaching the final six months of his contract and is a target for Madrid when he becomes a free agent, but reports have suggested Madrid could speed up their pursuit of the Liverpool favourite to help them replace the injured Dani Carvajal.

Ancelotti, however, believes the current Madrid squad is strong enough to cope without Carvajal and rejected suggestions of a January move for Alexander-Arnold.

"We have Lucas Vazquez, we trust him.," Ancelotti stressed. "Then there's Eder Militao. I see him well as a right-back, yes.

"I have not asked for new signings in January as last year we managed the situation well.

"Signing a player who will be good for Real Madrid is not easy. At the moment we are not thinking about it."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who has repeatedly insisted there are no updates on Alexander-Arnold's future at Anfield, recently praised the right-back for remaining focused on Liverpool even as questions on his future continue to swirl.
