Celtic have secured three points after Arne Engels struck from the penalty spot before Luke McCowan added a fourth. The Belgian was denied by Amassah but the goalkeeper came off his line to save the first attempt meaning Matthew MacDermid called for a retake. Despite the goalkeeper’s attempts to put him off, Engels stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom corner.
The penalty was awarded after Brown fouled Yang in the box before the Celtic winger could get a shot away from close range. Then, with the clock ticking down, McCowan added a fourth by showing coolness in the box to collect the scraps from Johnny Kenny before slotting the ball into the corner.
Celtic have been the better team today and have been well worth the victory. The manager will be pleased that his side have had to dig deep after White netted an equaliser from the spot for the hosts. Kyogo scored a brace as he played in an alternate role due to the absences in the wide areas for the Champions. The 29-year-old appeared to relish the different role but didn’t appear to be overly enthused at either of his goals, suggesting frustration at his recent goalscoring form.
Brendan’s side will now travel back down the A9 with their lead at the top of the Premiership sitting at 18 points ahead of Rangers’ game against St Johnstone tomorrow. Celtic will get themselves back down the road, thaw out and prepare for Tuesday’s trip to Dens Park to face Dundee.
