Chelsea are reportedly considering a potential move for a new striker as uncertainty surrounds their pursuit of Mathys Tel.
According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, the London club has yet to finalise negotiations for any forward, including Tel, leaving the possibility of alternative options on the table.
Among the names on their transfer shortlist is Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi.
However, per the report, Chelsea are not negotiating to sign the Borussia Dortmund star on a permanent deal for either the January transfer window or the summer. Instead, Adeyemi may emerge as a loan option if other targets fail to materialise.
Chelsea have compiled a shortlist of forwards and wingers as part of their strategy to bolster their attacking options. Nicolas Jackson is misfiring up top, and they have been without Mykhailo Mudryk for weeks as he is suspended pending the definitive result of his doping test.
While the club has reportedly made contact regarding several potential signings, no agreements have been reached. Tel is keen on proving himself at Bayern Munich. Negotiations hang in the balance.
Adeyemi is one of those forwards who floats between being a winger and being a striker while being neither. From a profile point of view, he is already a misfit.
Chelsea need a clinical box presence and a goalscoring winger. The German international is more of a second striker. He does not fit the bill despite netting 68 goals for RB Salzburg, FC Liefering, Dortmund and the national team (per Transfermarkt).
His injury record makes for grim reading. He is always on the treatment table for one problem or the other, and they seem to be escalating. Chelsea should be wise and steer clear of the Dortmund star.
Chelsea must convince Tel about a move to Stamford Bridge to cover the left wing and perhaps reignite interest in Samu Aghehowa to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson.
