Reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Borussia Dortmund are looking into the transfer market for a centre-back and have shortlisted Renato Veiga of Chelsea as the one to sign in the winter transfer window. The Stamford Bridge side has decided to demand €30 to sell Veiga to Dortmund.

Chelsea had quite a number of players to compete in the defensive and central defensive positions. However, they still went forward with their deal to sign Viega from FC Basel in the summer transfer window. The player did not get that many opportunities in his first season but has done really well in the limited opportunities that he has received for the Blues.

The 21-year-old player has been versatile enough to play as a centre-back, a left-back, and a defensive midfielder. He has already scored two goals and provided one assist in the 18 matches that he has played for Chelsea so far this season.

Veiga has just moved to Chelsea this summer but wants to move on to a new club in the winter transfer window. A number of clubs are interested in the 21-year-old, and Borussia Dortmund are leading in the list of clubs to secure his signing in the winter transfer window.

Dortmund have four centre-backs in their squad, but Niklas Sule has suffered an injury and might not be playing a major part now. Hence, Dortmund wants to make a move for a centre-back and sees Veiga as the one to sign in the January transfer window.

Why is Chelsea’s decision to sell Renato Veiga for €30 million good?

Veiga wants to play as a centre-back in the squad and not in the other roles that he has played for Chelsea. The Blues will not approve any loan move for the player and will sell him only for €30 million to Dortmund.

Chelsea’s decision to sell Renato Veiga for €30 million is beneficial as it secures a significant profit from his £12 million transfer fee just six months prior. Veiga’s role is limited at Chelsea, not competing with established players like Colwill or Cucurella. This sale optimizes squad space and finances.

It remains to be seen if the German club does agree to match the amount that Chelsea is demanding to offload Viega in the winter transfer window. Only €30 million can make Chelsea sell Veiga to Dortmund in the January transfer window.
