Serie A minnows Como are hellbent on keeping hold of star playmaker Nico Paz for another season despite several roadblocks. Per Fabrizio Romano, Cesc Fabregas holds the young gun in the highest esteem and wants to build his side around him next term.
Nico Paz joined Como from Real Madrid last summer for a reported fee of only €6 million. Despite his mercurial talent, the 20-year-old had no space at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded squad forced the Argentine prodigy to pack his bags.
Aware of Paz’s potential to become a superstar, Los Blancos included several clauses in their agreement with Como. As a result, they can re-sign the left-footed maestro for a mere €9m in June. Otherwise, they can rely on a 50% sell-on clause to fill their coffers.
In addition to Real Madrid, reigning Scudetto holders Inter harbor a genuine interest in Paz. Multiple reports in Italy testify to Inter’s great desire to make the versatile forward their marquee summer signing. However, Como could spoil their plans.
Unfortunately for the Serie A newcomers, the final decision is up to Real Madrid. Ancelotti spoke highly of Paz during the season, yet he will likely cut ties with Los Merengues at the end of the season. Therefore, his successor will have a final say.
However, Como won’t go down without a fight. Paz has been vital to Fabregas’ set-up this season, playing a prominent role in Como’s successful quest to secure top-flight survival.
