AC Milan are yet to contact Liverpool over striker Darwin Nunez despite the strong links in the past few days, a report claims.
According to the latest from Daily Mail, Milan have not reached out to Liverpool yet about a move for Nunez, who seems to be out of favour under Arne Slot. So far in 2024-25 he has just four goals in 23 games across all competitions.
The Uruguayan joined the Reds for a fee of €75m plus €25m in potential bonuses (via Sky) from Benfica in the summer of 2022, yet he has earned a reputation for perhaps not being as prolific as needed. Nunez has netted 37 times in 119 appearances for the Reds.
As a result, the new boss Slot has preferred Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota and Milan – who have been linked with Nunez since his days at Benfica – are keeping tabs on things. The move would have initially been on a six-month loan, with a €50m obligation to buy in the summer.
The Mail state that Liverpool ‘have heard nothing’ from the Rossoneri, but it is ‘still extremely early in the January transfer window and things can change’. Despite this, it is ‘unlikely that Liverpool would permit Nunez a move away without having a replacement lined up’.
Adding to the story is a tweet which seemingly shows that Nunez himself has liked an image of him wearing a Milan shirt, which is actually a real photo from when he donned the red and black stripes after the Champions League meeting earlier this season.
