David Beckham has told Minnesota United to be "show a little respect" after their social media team's "Pink Phony Club" dig after beating Inter Miami 4-1.
The Loons cruised to victory in the MLS on Saturday night (May 10), with Bongokuhle Hlongwane (32'), Anthony Markanich (45+2), and Robin Lod (70') on target while Marcelo Weigandt scored an unfortunate own goal (68').
Lionel Messi had given Miami hope when he scored for the Loons shortly after half-time (48') but Javier Mascherano's men were handed their fourth defeat in five games. Minnesota poked fun at the DRV PNK outfit after their win.
Minnesota have since uploaded two posts on their Instagram channel that make light of Miami. The first saw them use one of singer-songwriter Chappell Roan's songs to mock Beckham's co-owned club founded just seven years ago:
Beckham didn’t take kindly to this, replying in the comments section: "Show a little respect (Minnesota) be elegant in triumph"
The Loons' social media team weren't done there, though as they added another post that featured a banner with the words: "History over Hype, Culture over Cash."
Beckham replied: "Respect over everything (Minnesota)."
Beckham has been extremely defensive of Miami since the Manchester United legend and brothers Jorge and Jas Mas completed a buyout of the club in 2021. He has helped lure some of the world's biggest stars to DRV PNK, including Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.
He said that it was an "extremely proud day" when unveiling the club's new name and crest in September 2018. His support of the wealthiest MLS franchise has seen him quick to defend.

There were huge hopes for the season when Beckham sought to replace Gerardo Martino with Mascherano in November. The former Liverpool midfielder had been working as Argentina U20 manager and oversaw Abiceleste's Olympic team that lost to eventual winners France in the quarter-finals.
Mascherano has come under pressure amid a poor run of form that has seen Minnesota overtake his side in the MLS Eastern Conference standings. This came after they were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup by Vancouver Whitecaps in a 5-1 aggregate defeat.
The Herons sit fourth in the Eastern Conference, four points behind leaders FC Cincinnati after 11 games although they have a game in hand. Mascherano's men are next in action on Thursday (May 15) when they face San Jose.
