Jordy Clasie (33) has signed a new contract at AZ Alkmaar, keeping him at the AFAS Stadion until the summer of 2028.

Clasie has been at AZ since his 2019 from Southampton and has now played 204 matches for the current sixth-placed Eredivisie side. Happy with the deal, Clasie beamed:

“I have said before that I am very much in my element at AZ. The people, the way of working and the future prospects mean that I am happy to extend my contract for three years.”

A big part of Jordy Clasie’s decision to extend his stay comes down to the potential in Maarten Martens’ team. He continued:

“A lot is possible at AZ. When I look around me, I see many young and eager players. There is a culture of wanting to improve every day. I like to share my experience with the boys to make them better. And I believe that AZ is on the right track to continue to make progress in terms of sports. I am not only saying that because of the period we are currently in, but mainly because the vision at AZ is strong. Promising times are coming.”

Sporting Director and former AZ star Max Huiberts was also very happy with Clasie’s new deal. “What Jordy shows week in week out is of great class. He reaches an incredibly high level, is able to read matches and make both the team and the individual function better. In addition, Jordy is very important for the development of the young players in the team with all his experience at home and abroad.”

“The talks about his contract extensions went smoothly and respectfully. That has largely to do with the fact that Jordy fully supports the plans, ambitions and working methods of AZ. We are convinced that Jordy will continue to make his mark on the team process and the performances of AZ in the coming years.”

The seventeen-time Dutch international previously played for Feyenoord, Excelsior and Club Brugge.
