Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Enzo Le Fee’s transfer from Roma to Championship side Sunderland is now a done deal.
The Frenchman is expected to move to the Stadium of Light on an initial loan deal until the end of the season with an obligation to buy should Sunderland gain promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, as was reported earlier on Wednesday afternoon.
According to updates from transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Sunderland will pay a fee of €23m to make the move permanent should they end up in the top two, or gain promotion via the Championship play-offs this season.
That is the same fee (€23m) that Roma paid to sign the 24-year-old from Rennes during the summer transfer window.
The Black Cats currently sit in fourth place in the Championship table, comfortably clear of Middlesbrough in fifth, who are nine points below them. They sit just three points off the top of the league standings.
A move to Sunderland will bring a reunion between Le Fee and coach Regis Le Bris, as the pair worked together at Ligue 1 outfit Lorient during the 2022-23 season.
