After his comments about Aston Villa sparked controversy, Douglas Luiz has tried to clarify that has no ‘desire to return’ because he ‘loves Juventus.’

The attacking midfielder has been an unmitigated flop since his €50m transfer to Turin last summer, failing to make an impact and struggling to even get playing time as a substitute.

So when he went on Twitch and spoke lovingly about what he had experienced with his former club, it made waves.

“I miss Aston Villa, guys. I miss playing at Villa Park, I miss everything — it’s always in my heart,” said the Brazilian.

Following the speculation over his future, Douglas Luiz took to his Instagram Stories to clarify the situation.

“When I talked about Aston Villa, I was only referring to the affection I have for the place where I grew up as a man and a player, not to the desire to return,” he wrote in Italian.

“One must not mistake nostalgia with the desire to return: I love Juventus and am totally concentrated on our objectives.”

Nonetheless, the stories continue to circulate that Juventus will try to sell Douglas Luiz on at the end of the season, even if their chances of making back the €50m spent are very slim after such a poor campaign.

The Bianconeri fans repeatedly urge the player to leave and at times he has been tempted to hit back at them on social media.

Nottingham Forest have been most strongly linked with a possible offer for the player, especially if they manage to qualify for the Champions League.
