On the biggest European night in the club’s recent history, Aston Villa have repeated the heroics of 1982 when they beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the final.
Jhon Durán scored the only goal of the night, and their first at Villa Park in the competition in 41 years.
Youri Tielemans bagged their first goal back in European football’s premier competition against Young Boys, and now the supersub has done it at home, scoring his fifth off the bench already this season.
As has been the case all season to date, it was a brilliant finish, as he latched onto Pau Torres’ through ball and lofted the ball over Manuel Neuer, who misjudged the situation and came off his line, only to get nothing.
Gordon Cowans was the club’s last scorer of a home goal, when he equalised in the first-leg of their quarter final against Juventus in March 1983.
This has to be their biggest goal since Peter Withe’s winner in ’82 though!
