United making a swift return to North London.

Arsenal the opposition, as Newcastle look to make it seven wins in a row.

If that is achieved, it will of course also mean a massive step taken in terms of a potential return to Wembley, with the second leg of this Carabao Cup to be played four weeks on Wednesday at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe Arsenal press conference on Monday:

“This is an important game for us, we need to be at our absolute best.

“A high-level game, there is a lot at stake for us.

“We’ve got to be really good off the ball and solid defensively.

“We’ve got to cause Arsenal problems the other way.

“I don’t think we should overthink it, we just need to get that mix right.

“Let’s try and continue the good performances we’ve given recently and try and win the game.”

Eddie Howe on team selection:

“You ask any player, and I will ask every player how they are physically, and they will all say they want to play.

“It is a massive game for us, we are under no illusions, part of our strength recently has been the consistency in our team selection so let’s see what we will do.”

Eddie Howe on Sven Botman:

“He feels good, naturally a little bit of fatigue at the end. He has trained for a long, long time for this moment. It is not like he has been rushed back. Straight into action, he did very well, very pleased with him, he handled the intensity well.

“I’ve got no doubt what he [Sven Botman] will say [about whether ok to play against Arsenal], but we need to speak other people [medical staff] and come up with the right decision”

Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak’s form:

“He will naturally [feel like he will score every time he goes on the pitch], when you are on the run of goalscoring games that he is.

“The team is creating for him, the team is playing in a really good way for Alex and others.

“Alex is playing his part in that by finishing them off but the team is playing great and creating the chances for him.”

Eddie Howe on Anthony Gordon:

“Anthony was in a bit of discomfort with the cut which was a nasty looking one.

“He performed really well for us I thought he had a really good game – we will see how he is today.”
