In the 4-0 home victory over Accrington Stanley at Saturday lunchtime, Rio Ngumoha became the second-youngest debutant in the Reds’ history at 16 years, four months, and 13 days, despite not yet playing for the U21s, as Lewis Bower revealed.

On Ngumoha, Bower said: “Everyone you speak to in the game says he is going to be a top talent.”

However, he admitted “there are areas that need refining,” but that he is forming a “good partnership with Trey Nyoni”.

The young attacker has an abundance of potential, but he needs to know when to give it, using his teammates.

Nyoni replaced Wataru Endo off the bench in the 79th minute after playing 86 minutes in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at St. Mary’s Stadium against Southampton.

Jayden Danns continued his love affair with the FA Cup at Anfield, scoring four minutes after his introduction from the bench with his first shot.

Danns along with James McConnell would both likely have departed on loan in the summer if not for injury.

The former was heavily linked with a loan to Plymouth but may have dodged a bullet after the ill-fated reign of Wayne Rooney.

Bower added: “I think that both players should move out on loan.

“The likes of Danns, Arne Slot may well like him, but will he want him for now?

“Would it benefit him more to go get half a season out on loan?

“Do well there, even if it doesn’t go too well, he’s just got men’s football under his belt.

“They should go seize the chance.”

Tyler Morton played an hour but may be looking for a move elsewhere.

He was retained in the summer whilst most of the young players departed permanently or on loan in the summer as the third choice no.6 behind Endo.

And, of course, Trent Alexander-Arnold – who graduated from the academy all those years ago – scored a wonder strike to silence his critics after his performance in the 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United.

He looked genuinely emotional when he scored, but we are no closer to knowing whether he will stay or will he go…

Ngumoha and Danns are certainly both exciting prospects. How their minutes are managed in the next few years will be career-defining for them.

Meanwhile, the young Reds will play Stuggart away in a one-legged, round of 32 tie on Thursday, February 11. The future, as ever, is bright.
