Inter Milan got a big result in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal tie against Barcelona.

The Nerazzurri ran out with a 3-3 draw. This means that there’s everything to play for in the second leg, which Inter are playing at home.

That is certainly not a result that Inter would have turned down at the start of play.

However, things could have ended up even better for the Nerazzurri.

Inter actually led twice over ninety minutes. However, Barcelona were able to haul themselves back into the match.

Moreover, Inter could have taken the lead a third time.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had the ball in the back of the net midway through the second half.

The Armenian finished off a clinical counterattack as Inter punished Barcelona’s high defensive line.

However, replays showed that the Blaugranas’ offside line had stepped up just in the nick of time. Mkhitaryan was in fact offside for the goal, though only by his toe.

Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave his thoughts on that offside goal.

“Eh,” he lamented. “I feel disappointed by it.”

“Unfortunately, it was offside by just a few centimetres.”

Of the match as a whole, an instant classic 3-3 draw, Mkhitaryan called it “a crazy match, first of all.”

“It was certainly a great match to watch,” the former Arsenal and Roma midfielder said.

“But not to play in,” he admitted. “Because it was really tough.”

“But we did our best. I think we could have even done a little better – but in football, anything can happen.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan noted that “we were 2-0 up after twenty minutes.”

“But we didn’t think that we’d already won the match. Barca are a very good team, who press intensely.”

“We did our best,” Mkhitaryan said. “But unfortunately we couldn’t finish the match at 3-2.”

“But that’s football. And now we have to think about the secong leg.”
