Ex Man Utd star gives two reasons why Ruben Amorim can still achieve ‘gigantic success’ this season

Even though Manchester United are seemingly heading towards the abyss, Ruben Amorim can still salvage the situation and make the campaign count, says Mikael Silvestre.
The Portuguese tactican was brought in to steady the ship following a hectic start of the season under Erik ten Hag who was shown the door in October. However the results haven’t exactly improved with the 40-year-old in charge. In fact the team continues to sink in the standings, currently sitting in a horrific 15th position, not too far from the relegation zone.
Neverthless, Silvestre believes the manager has two chances to save the campaign as winning either the FA Cup or the Europa League would be a ‘gigantic’ achievement for the club.
“A Trophy would be a gigantic success this season given the run of the team and the situation they are in, whether it would be the FA Cup of the Europa Leage,” said the 47-year-old retired defender in his interview with Soccerex.
“The Europa League would be amazing, that would be my pick because it gives you access to Europe straight away next season. If you look at the table, the European places are out of reach right now, so yeah I’m hoping they go all the way and win the competition.”

The French defender also insisted that the path towards recovery will be long, as it requires running out the contracts of some of the club’s highest earners. He also urged the Red Devils to return to the basics and give opportunities to academy product.
“It will be long for sure because you know the amount of money you need to change, you have to run contracts down so it takes time for sure. People have to be patient and resourceful, and I think for me the most important would be to insist on producing players from the academy because it’s cost effective and also in terms of DNA that’s what makes the club much stronger.”
