Exeter City defeated Plymouth Argyle 1-0 in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division watched by a crowd 0f 596 at Coach Road.
Argyle’s Imogen Crawford took aim early on but Abbi Bond turned her strike onto the underside of the crossbar, Mollie Taylor making the clearance with the shot deemed to have not crossed the line.
Pilgrims’ goalkeeper Chloe Felgate stretched to keep out a volley by Sarah Stacey, who later hit the inside of the post as the home side this time appealed unsuccessfully for a goal.
Derby tempers flared before the break with a foul on the Grecians’ Bow Jackson, that led to cautions for their Zoe Watkins and Argyle’s Charlotte Whitmore.
City substitute Ishbel Zuurmond struck the bar, with the breakthrough following 12 minutes from time as Sophie Gillies beat Felgate at the second attempt.
