Manchester United played out a 3-3 draw against Porto in their second group match of the Europa League. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Andre Onana 6 – Not much he could do about the goals.
Noussair Mazraoui 5 – Barely got forward. He didn’t cover himself in glory for Porto’s first goal.
Matthijs de Ligt 2 – Dreadful. His performance was mistake-laden. Failed to clear his lines for Porto’s first goal and wasn’t strong enough in the air for their equaliser. He was also slow to react for Porto’s third, as Samu Omorodion completed his brace. Omorodion had his number all game and he was United’s weakest link.
Lisandro Martinez 3 – Wasn’t much better than De Ligt. Got beat in a foot race for Porto’s third of the match. He wasn’t as good in terms of building up play. Just not good enough.
Diogo Dalot 5 – Didn’t have a great game but he tried to get forward whenever he could.
Casemiro 4 – Didn’t provide any steel or solidity in the middle of the park. Just a tepid display.
Christian Eriksen 5 – Fed Rashford for United’s opener but didn’t do much after that.
Bruno Fernandes 3 – Struggled again. Just hasn’t got going this season. Some of his actions were rushed, perhaps due to annoyance or impatience with how the match was going. Carelessly lost the ball a few times and lacked the imagination or creativity that usually characterises his game. Picked up a silly red card, effectively giving United no chance of mounting a comeback.
Amad Diallo 6 – Started well but drifted out of the game as time went by. Didn’t offer much but to be fair to be him, he didn’t get the ball nearly enough as most of United’s attacks went down the left.
Marcus Rashford 9 – United’s main source of threat before is peculiar withdrawal at half time. Grabbed his side’s opening goal in brilliant style as he got past two or three players before beating Diogo Costa at his near post. He then assisted Hojlund for the team’s second of the match. He constantly troubled the Porto defence and they would have undoubtedly been happy not to see him come out for the second period.
Rasmus Hojlund 7 – Got on the score sheet on his first start of the start of the season. Embarked on a good run just before the break but the move eventually petered out.
Alejandro Garnacho 7 – Tried to make things happen when he came on. Had a few cracks at goal from outside the box but was denied more than once by Costa.
Joshua Zirkzee 5 – Didn’t do much on the pitch but there wasn’t much to work with.
Antony 5 – Same as Zirkzee, he didn’t make a difference.
Harry Maguire 8 – Put an end to the De Ligt circus and spared United some blushes by scoring the third and ensuring the spoils were shared between the two sides.
Jonny Evans 6 – Did his job and was much better than De Ligt and Martinez.
