Jason Cundy has claimed the win against Tottenham was the first time he’d seen Enzo Maresca make a bold decision.

The Blues picked up a huge three points with a 1-0 win against their rivals thanks to a second half header from Enzo Fernandez, who Cundy thought was brilliant.

The win moved Chelsea back into the top four and they face a crucial game against Brentford on Sunday, with the race for Champions League qualification set to go to the wire.

Cundy on Maresca decision against Spurs

Having lost against Arsenal before the international break it was vital the Blues got back to winning ways with a tough run of fixtures coming up.

Chelsea were boosted by the return of Nicolas Jackson to the starting line-up along with Cole Palmer, with Maresca’s men creating a number of opportunities which they failed to capitalise on.

However, the football was better than had been seen in recent weeks and Maresca showed he does have tactical flexibility.

Maresca celebrates the win against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

He sent on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Tosin Adarabioyo late on in place of Palmer and Fernandez, something he admitted after the game was a mistake.

This decision was picked up on by Cundy who felt it was the first time he’d seen the Italian make a brave decision.

“He [Maresca] brought on Tosin and went to a back five,” he told talkSPORT as cited on X.com.

“We basically said to Spurs you’re going to have the ball, we’re not going to give you space in behind, we’re not going to allow you counter.

Maresca certainly showed something different and commented after the game about Chelsea needing to find ways to win dirty, and the Blues certainly did as they dug in and remained resolute despite there being 12 minutes of added time.
