Manchester City and the Football Association are due to hold conversations over the future of James McAtee on the field amid a clash of tournaments this summer.
The attacking midfielder is beginning to earn himself more and more opportunities within Pep Guardiola’s first-team picture this season, and found himself with a first Premier League start for Manchester City at the weekend.
Impressing across the course of 90 minutes against Crystal Palace in the top-flight, McAtee’s solitary goal was the very least he could have secured for himself with a whole host of goalscoring opportunities earned through his eye for attacking positioning.
Guardiola was full of praise for the City academy graduate when speaking to the media after the game, having stood by James McAtee during the last summer transfer window insisting that he should remain with the club after successive loan spells at Sheffield United.
And ahead of a big summer of expected changes at Manchester City, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Salford-born midfielder, both in terms of his playing prospects for club and country, and his transfer future.
According to the information of MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, Manchester City are set for talks with the Football Association over James McAtee’s availability at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer amid a clash in scheduling with the Under-21 European Championship with England.
England’s U21 manager Lee Carsley is reportedly holding discussions with Etihad Stadium officials over the coming weeks to understand whether he will be able to call upon Pep Guardiola’s highly-rated attacking midfielder.
England are said to want to have the 22-year-old available when they travel to Slovakia for the summer tournament, beginning with a meeting against Czech Republic on June 12, while City are due to fly out to Miami, Florida the same week for the Club World Cup.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
