In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain was in the middle of its big-name era, so the capital club was bringing in players who were recognizable figures. The Parisians nearly secured an Italian standout to help their defense in the latest revelation.

PSG have been no strangers to bringing defenders from Serie A, whether it’s Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Milan Skriniar, and Achraf Hakimi. Nonetheless, the French giants nearly added another name to that list.

While speaking to Sky Sports Italy, former Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci revealed that after leaving the Turin-based club in 2017, he had three suitors: Manchester City, AC Milan, and PSG.

“When I decided to leave Juventus in 2017, both Manchester City and PSG wanted me,” Bonucci said. “They also sent a financial proposal but… I wanted to stay in Italy and I decided to join AC Milan… Pep already wanted me at Man City in summer 2016.”

It’s no surprise that PSG was in the mix for a big-name veteran defender; they eventually signed a similar profile in Sergio Ramos, who came over from Real Madrid. The signing had mixed results, so it’s likely good that the Ligue 1 side didn’t sign Bonucci because those signings haven’t worked out well for PSG in recent years.
