Randal Kolo Muani (25) needed a strong performance against Belgium on Monday evening. The former FC Nantes forward has struggled for form ever since arriving at Paris Saint-Germain from Eintracht Frankfurt for a sizeable €90m fee back in the summer of 2023.

Despite the vocal backing of his manager at club level, Luis Enrique, the Spaniard’s actions have evidenced a lack of trust in Kolo Muani, who remains a peripheral figure, even despite the injury suffered to the other out-and-out No.9 in the PSG squad, Goncalo Ramos, at the start of the season.

‘I think he’ll be able to do lots of good at PSG’ – Guendouzi on Kolo Muani

That lack of trust culminated in a half-time substitution in Les Parisiens’ 1-1 draw against OGC Nice just before the international break. France camps have often represented a welcome distraction for Kolo Muani. When called upon, and unlike at PSG, he is often called upon, he has performed well for France. It is clear, through his often vociferous defence of the player, that Didier Deschamps is a big fan of RKM.

However, his performance last Thursday against Israel was one of his worst in a France shirt. A response was needed against Belgium, and it was forthcoming as he netted twice in a 2-1 win. Speaking post-match, former Olympique de Marseille midfielder (25) backed his compatriot to carry that form into Ligue 1.

“We have a lot of confidence in him. We knew he could score. When you feel the manager’s trust, that always does good for your confidence. I think he’ll be able to do lots of good at PSG in the league or in other competitions,” said Guendouzi.
