Freiburg

Freiburg endured a run of three consecutive defeats, before they returned to winning ways in last Saturday’s away meeting with Bochum. Kiliann Sildillia’s 34th-minute effort proved enough to secure Freiburg’s first away league victory since beating Werder Bremen in October. As a result of the victory, Julian Schuster’s side moved into the top half of the table, leaving them just one point adrift of the top six ahead of the upcoming matchday.

After experiencing success on the road last weekend, Freiburg will now return to the familiar surroundings of the Europa-Park Stadion for Saturday’s fixture. The hosts may have lost their most recent home game against Bayern Munich, but they will still take plenty of encouragement from the fact they have won six, drawn one and lost two of their nine home league games this season. Freiburg are looking to complete a league double over Heidenheim after cruising to a 3-0 victory in September’s reverse fixture.

Team News

The hosts will be unable to call upon the injured quartet of Florent Muslija, Bruno Ogbus Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Max Rosenfelder.

Heidenheim

Heidenheim are languishing in the relegation playoff spot after winning four, drawing two and losing 14 of their 20 league matches this season. In fact, Frank Schmidt’s side have lost 12 of their previous 15 Bundesliga games, including each of their last three top-flight matches. Heidenheim lost to St. Pauli and Augsburg, before they fell to a 2-1 defeat in last Saturday’s home clash against Borussia Dortmund. Heidenheim ultimately failed to find an equaliser after Mathias Honsak found the net to halve the deficit following goals from Serhou Guirassy and Max Beier.

As a result of their poor form, Heidenheim are sitting just two points clear of 17th-placed Holstein Kiel and four points adrift of Hoffenheim in 15th position. If they are to escape the bottom three, Heidenheim will have to demonstrate a significant improvement on the road, having taken just one point from their last seven away league games since beating Mainz in September.

Team News

Niklas Dorsch remains sidelined with a knee issue which has kept him out of the last three matches.
