GdS: ‘A goal like Vieri – ‘Bebote-mania’ breaks out after Gimenez’s strike

Santiago Gimenez got his first goal as an AC Milan player during his first Serie A appearance, and ‘Bebote-mania’ is already beginning to grow.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport recall, Christian Pulisic set up Gimenez who became the first Mexican scorer in the history of Milan, the third in Serie A after Johan Vasquez and Hirving Lozano. Beyond the statistics, fans have one thought left in their heads: Milan have found a centre-forward.

Gimenez’s goal was that of a true striker and it was all left-footed. Santi moved the ball inside to evade any challenge from Goglichidze, who was off-balance, and aimed for the far post with his left-footed curling shot.

The 23-year-old played 45 minutes against Empoli, touched the ball only 23 times and had two shots on goal, yet that was enough. After the assist against Roma in his debut in the Coppa Italia he has his name on the scoresheet, which bodes well.

Gimenez will probably play in Rotterdam on Wednesday night against Feyenoord, starting with Pulisic, Joao Felix and Rafa Leao, in the four-star attack that Milan fans have been waiting for for weeks. Milan with them is certainly less balanced but much less fun.

More Stories about Santiago Gimenez

Considering that Feyenoord have only the fourth-best defence in the Eredivisie, a league in which there is no shortage of opportunities, it is easy to think that Gimenez will have more than one goal-scoring chance in the area.

The next month will be important: if Santi gets into the swing of things, if he continues to score a goal every hour like he did in Holland, at €30m plus bonuses it will soon be a steal. The conditions are there: he doesn’t have much competition so he can have a run of games without fear.

Some have compared him to Bobo Vieri, partly because Santi resembles him in some features, partly because the left-footed goal – with the powerful movement – is pure Bobone.
