After losing the Coppa Italia, AC Milan are almost definitely going to be looking for a new head coach this summer.

There are several names that have been linked to the job so far, but it has almost been a case of self elimination with a number of candidates either unreasonable or uninterested. So, Gazzetta dello Sport have given a rundown of the list, with Sérgio Conceição’s future as good as decided.

It starts with Carlo Ancelotti and Cesc Fabregas, the latter of which was certainly more than a hypothetical than the return of Don Carlo. In both situations there is no chance of arrival with Ancelotti heading to be the Brazilian National Team head coach, whilst the Spaniard has turned down the job (and others, in fairness) in favour of staying with Como.

So, a list of six turns to four, made up of: Maurizio Sarri, Roberto De Zerbi, Massimiliano Allegri and finally, the Coppa Italia champion Vincenzo Italiano.

From that list, you would imagine only two are feasible currently, and those are Sarri and Allegri – both are out of work and have been linked heavily. De Zerbi has just qualified for the Champions League with Marseille, whilst Italiano obviously is being hailed as a God in Bologna.

It would be ambitious if a move for either of the two were to be made, but without a sporting director, would anyone risk buying into the project as it currently is? We’ll have to see.
