The visitors came with the hope of challenging the league leaders but ultimately fell short against a well-organised and clinical Madrid side.

From the very start, it was clear that Real Madrid were in control. Their intensity, composure, and tactical discipline made it difficult for Girona to impose their game.

Despite Girona creating a few opportunities, manager Michel admitted that facing Real Madrid was always going to be challenging.

“The match was very complicated and Real Madrid know that every point is important. We had to be very sharp in both areas and it wasn’t to be, you can’t blame the team because we had chances,” he began saying.

On Modric’s goal

Luka Modric’s goal was a turning point in the match, shifting the momentum completely in Madrid’s favour.

Michel said that once ahead, the team managed the game with authority, dictating the tempo and keeping Girona at bay.

“We expected a match like this, but a goal from home gave them peace of mind, and with the score in their favour, they know how to control it well.”

While Michel acknowledged his team’s efforts, there was no denying that Madrid were the superior side. Girona attempted to create danger but struggled to maintain consistency throughout the game.

“We were able to do damage, although we lack continuity in this process and I’m not worried about the result because we played a good game, even though Madrid was superior,” he added.

Michel recognised the challenge of facing a team like Real Madrid, admitting that it is incredibly difficult to compete against a side fighting for every major title.

“I think we defended well and I’m satisfied with many things, but this Real Madrid team is fighting for all the titles and it’s very difficult to beat them right now.”

At this stage of the season, every point is crucial, and Madrid’s ability to handle high-pressure matches continues to set them apart.
