In a fiercely contested encounter at the MHPArena, Gladbach emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart. The Foals looked in control from start to finish, a credit to Gerardo Seoane for setting them up so well to counteract any threat from Stuttgart who struggled to get going in attack.

Ngoumou Breaks the Deadlock

The first half was a showcase of tactical prowess from both sides. Stuttgart, led by Jamie Leweling, posed a constant threat on the right flank. However, it was Gladbach's counter-pressing that proved most effective. Eventually, the deadlock was broken in the 25th minute when Nathan Ngoumou finished off a superb move, latching onto a perfect through ball from Julian Weigl to slot the ball past Alexander Nübel. The physical nature of Gladbach's off-ball approach was evident, with Kevin Stöger receiving a yellow card in the 42nd minute for a foul on Leweling.

Stuttgart's Equalizer and Kleindienst's Winner

Stuttgart came out fighting in the second half and were rewarded just four minutes after the restart. An unfortunate own goal by Nico Elvedi levelled the scores, injecting new life into the match. The intensity of the game continued to rise, with Ramon Hendriks and Tim Kleindienst both receiving yellow cards in the 57th minute. Stuttgart's Maximilian Mittelstädt was also cautioned in the 62nd minute. The home side pushed for a winner, with Chris Führich coming close in the 72nd minute, forcing a save from Moritz Nicolas in what was Stuttgart's first shot on target. However, it was Gladbach who would have the final say. In the 81st minute, Kleindienst capped off a well-worked team move, slotting home from close range after excellent work from Lukas Ullrich and Weigl. The goal proved to be the winner, securing a valuable three points for the Foals.

Tactical Battle

The match was a testament to the tactical acumen of both managers. Seoane's strategy of effective counter-pressing paid dividends, while Hoeneß's attempts to exploit the flanks through Leweling showed promise but ultimately fell short. The introduction of Führich in the 59th minute for Stuttgart nearly changed the game's dynamics, though it wasn't enough for the home side.
