Tim Kleindienst scored Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second as Gerardo Seoane’s side beat Union Berlin 2-1 to move die Fohlen to within three points of fourth placed RB Leipzig. The German’s 14th Bundesliga goal of the season was his fifth in five consecutive games, becoming the first Gladbach player to achieve such a milestone since Oliver Neuville – who scored in six consecutive games – in the 2004/05 season.

The 29-year-old has 14 goals and five assists in 21 games this season, which makes him the top-scoring German in the Bundesliga and with favourable games against Augsburg and Heidenheim in the club’s next two league games, Kleindienst’s run could yet go on.

In Niclas Füllkrug’s absence, Kleindienst has also established himself as Julian Nagelsmann’s go-to man to lead the line for the German national team, alongside Deniz Undav while Kai Havertz also provides healthy competition for the No. 9 spot. Joining Gladbach for €7m, Kleindienst is well on his way to helping his new club qualify for European football.
