Guardiola tips Xabi Alonso for success at Real Madrid – ‘Shown that he is a great coach’ | OneFootball

Real Madrid have seen plenty of changes since their last game in La Liga, not only in terms of players but also in terms of management.

Carlo Ancelotti, after all, left the club after the final league clash of the season and made way for a new face to come in as the coach. Unsurprisingly, it was Xabi Alonso who was announced as the team’s new coach.

The new manager is already in action and is making serious strides in bolstering his squad with the right signings. His first game in charge, after all, will be at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Guardiola’s approval

Speaking to AS in a recent interview, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola gave his verdict on the Alonso appointment in Madrid and how he saw it panning out for Los Blancos under the club legend.

“He has shown that he is a great coach,” he began, giving his approval to the move.

“He has been at Madrid and that is a point in his favour. He knows what wars to fight and which are not necessary,” he added, elaborating on what would help Alonso at the club.

Finally, Guardiola conveyed his wishes to his compatriot for his new role with grace.

“I wish him the best and that he does well. I have a good friendship and a great memory with him.”

Guardiola also spoke about the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup where Real Madrid may well lock horns with his Manchester City, saying,

“We will have little rest, but it is an honour to go to the Club World Cup. Let’s see how we get there, wanting to make a good tournament.”

“Mentally it’s already a new season. It’s great to be able to go,” he added.
