It has been reported that it is unlikely for Hamer to remain in Sheffield after the transfer window, following the club’s inability to achieve promotion.

According to talkSPORT, the Championship Player of the Season is likely to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, Crysencio Summerville, and join a Premier League club following play-off heartbreak.

The Blades are likely to reluctantly grant their player’s wish and try and make a profit on the £15 million they spent to acquire Hamer from Coventry City in 2023.

Hamer had a relegation release clause as part of his contract last year following the Yorkshire outfit dropping out of the top-flight, but no club activated it before it expired.

David Moyes has targeted Hamer for an extended period of time now and is clearly a huge admirer of the Blades’ star.

It had been reported by TEAMtalk that the Toffees had Hamer on their watchlist heading into the summer, before Sheffield United’s second-tier status had even been confirmed.

TalkSPORT have also stated that Everton are in the race for the Dutchman’s signature, reaffirming the club’s strong interest in Hamer.

Moyes will be hoping their long-standing desire to sign Hamer pulls through during negotiations, and that they don’t miss out on the opportunity to other clubs eyeing up the midfielder.

Leeds United join the race for Hamer’s signature

Leeds and Sheffield United enjoyed a fierce battle for promotion throughout the majority of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with the Whites ultimately holding their nerve and winning out.

Now they, along with Everton, are showing a keen interest in acquiring Hamer’s services this summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Whites are looking to add the Sheffield United star to their ranks as they prepare to retain their Premier League status next season.

The Blades' county rivals have held an interest in the 27-year-old for a while now. He was linked with a £13 million move to Elland Road last summer, although he has since dismissed that it was a realistic possibility.
