FC Barcelona enjoyed another huge victory last night as they came over the challenge posed by Atletico Madrid in a match they won 4-2 to remain at the top of the La Liga table.

The Blaugranes found themselves trailing by 2 goals 20 minutes before the full-time whistle. However, goals from Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal allowed them to get their first win of the season over the Mattress Makers.

Naturally, the Barcelona head coach, Hansi Flick, was ecstatic with this result and showed his happiness as he talked to the media and the press after the match. As SPORT has reported, the German tactician was particularly happy with how the second half unfolded:

“In the first half, we played well too. In the second half, after conceding two goals, we showed the mentality that we never give up. After the first goal, hope was reignited. I’m happy for the team, the club, and the fans.”

Flick praised Ferran Torres and the whole of the team for the effort they put in training and games:

“It’s fantastic. When we announce the line-up, we have many players to choose from. Ferran trains very well, at a high level, and that’s what we believe in—giving one hundred percent effort in training from all the players.”

“We train the way we play; the players give their all in the sessions, and it shows on the field. They have a lot of confidence. There can be no complaints about this team. They put a lot of passion into everything they do.”

In addition to the three points, the Barcelona coach believed this win will also provide a morale boost for his team:

“We are going to give our all and fight until the end to win La Liga; there is still a long way to go… these are three very important points that make us happy. We are at the top of the table, but the best thing is the feeling we have.”

The German coach was also happy to have the international break coming up:

“Against Atlético, coming back from two goals down in 20 minutes is very important. It shows that the team believes in what it does. We are in a very good situation. The break is very good, and I’m happy for the players who will be able to rest.”

Flick did not have any news about the postponed game against Osasuna:

“We don’t know when we will play against Osasuna. It’s being discussed, but nothing can be confirmed yet.”

Lamine Yamal was another player the Barcelona trainer picked out for praise:

“He had another incredible match. He has the quality to score goals, and he has shown it once again. He had a lot of energy in one-on-one situations and in his attempts to break through.”

There were complaints of a possible handball by Rodrigo de Paul before Sorloth scored the second goal for Atletico Madrid last night, and Flick revealed they had spoken to the referee about that incident:

“We spoke with the referee, but we still believed despite everything. Lewy scored, and we kept going until we completed the comeback.”

The German coach once again reiterated why he likes this team so much:

“We had a lot of possession, with goal-scoring opportunities. We didn’t score in the first half due to some mistakes, but in the end, what stays with me is how we came back, believing in our style. That is something very good.”

“The whole team and staff are happy. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very good. We are a family, and this means a lot to me. It’s incredible to experience what I’m living as a coach. It’s fantastic. I love working for this club. The players are very connected with each other.”

Flick did not want to compare this current campaign to the treble-winning season he had with Bayern Munich:

“It’s a long road. The way we play and the confidence we have is very good. I wouldn’t say it’s similar to what happened to me with Bayern Munich. It’s different. There was the coronavirus, it was a very different context, although the feeling is very good, and we can draw positive conclusions. It’s a long journey, and we are doing everything we can to build more confidence.”

There is no doubt that this was a morale-boosting win for Barcelona, and can ultimately end up tilting the balance of the league race in their favour. Hopefully, Flick will be able to continue on this winning run when the team returns to play after the upcoming international break.
