Harry Kane blanks as Bayern Munich thrash Leipzig 5-1 | OneFootball

Bayern Munich faced RB Leipzig today and got a welcome boost as striker Harry Kane returned from his three-week injury lay-off.

He led the line as Bayern mullered their opponents 5-1, but failed to mark his return to action with a goal.

The Englishman started brightly as his lay-off led to Jamal Musiala’s opening goal in the first minute.

However, Leipzig responded immediately as Lois Openda spun Kim Min-jae to set up Benjamin Sesko, who arrowed in the equaliser.

Bayern eventually stamped their authority on the game. A neat one-two between Michael Olise and Konrad Laimer allowed the latter to finish.

Joshua Kimmich belted in Bayern’s third to give them a healthy two-goal lead heading into the half-time break.

Bayern cemented the win with Alphonso Davies and Leroy Sane bagging second-half goals to extend their lead to seven points at the top of the table.

Despite the comprehensive win, Kane did not get a goal, although he did enjoy an excellent outing.

Kane completed four out of four dribbles and won six of his 11 duels while playing two key passes.

He also missed a big chance to add to his tally of 14 goals in 12 Bundesliga games this season before being substituted for Thomas Muller.

Kane will be hoping they can hold on to the lead until the end of the season as he looks to seal his first trophy as a player, crowning what has been a stunning career.

The Bundesliga will go on a break until the second week of January. Bayern face Borussia Monchengladbach when the action resumes.
