Hassenhüttl addresses training ground altercation as two players clashed: "It wasn't all that nice" | OneFootball

VfL Wolfsburg had their press conference this afternoon in Lower Saxony where head coach Ralph Hassenhüttl addressed the media and emphasised how he and his players are eager to take on a high-flying Borussia Dortmund side this weekend and snap their winless run of poor form.

"It doesn't feel good, but the good thing about football is that there is nothing older than yesterday's successes and that's how we treat our failures too. We are playing a team fighting for Champions League and is playing very good since Niko [Kovač] took over, but we are going there to remember our strengths.

Die Wölfe's gaffer went on to discuss a controversial incident during training on Tuesday as Mohammed Amoura and Joakhim Mæhle were embroiled in an altercation.

"It's something that happens now and then, there are emotions in football. One of them overshot the mark and it wasn't all that nice. Everyone has to reckon with the consequences. The players live with, apologise, accept punishment and move on," he added.

One journalist attempted to pry more information out of the Austrian by questioning if it was true that Amoura was the perpetrator and Mæhle was the victim in this occasion. Hassenhüttl remained tight-lipped and underlined how the issue is resolved and it would be kept as an internal matter.

Hassenhüttl went on to talk briefly about the personnel situation for their trip to the Westfalenstadion, stating the squad has largely got an "okay" bill of health minus one or two absentees.

"Thankfully we have another centre-half back. Max's red card forced us to make another change in midfield. At least Aster Vranckx is back in action after private issues. Mattias Svanberg is still out, and Kevin Paredes is also out with a strain. Benedict Bröger is still out, as I said before, with a knee [injury]," he concluded.
