Inter Milan had both standout performers and players who didn’t make the grade against Juventus, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan impressing.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They lambast the Nerazzurri backline, and note a very mixed evening for Denzel Dumfries.

When the dust settled from yesterday’s wild Derby d’Italia thriller, both Inter and Juventus had some players who shone for their respective teams.

In the view of the Corriere, Inter’s midfield did well in particular.

The newspaper give Henrikh Mkhitaryan a 7/10 score in the player ratings.

Highs & Lows For Inter Vs Juventus – Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Piotr Zielinski Make The Grade

On the one hand, the Armenian could have done better for Juventus’s first two goals.

Mkhitaryan didn’t track the run of Weston McKennie on the Bianconeri’s opener. And then Mkhitaryan got dribbled past by Francisco Conceicao on the second goal.

But Mkhitaryan was the beating heart of Inter’s midfield. He did what he could to set the tempo, and was instrumental in the team’s ruthless fast breaks.

Similarly, Piotr Zielinski was also a huge influence in the centre of the pitch for the Nerazzurrri.

The Corriere also give the Polish international a grade of 7/10.

Zielinski crowned an impressive and mature performance in the not-too-familiar holding midfield position with two clinical penalties for his first two Inter goals.

On the other hand, the introduction of Davide Frattesi saw Inter’s midfield lose any semblance of control.

The Corriere give the Italian international a score of just 5/10, specifying his inability to keep the ball under control as Juventus pushed to get back into the match.

The only defender to get a passing grade from the Corriere is Benjamin Pavard.

But the Frenchman’s replacement – Yann Bisseck came on to replace Pavard after the latter went into the book – gets a 5/10 score for his lapses in the penalty area as Juventus came back into the match.

Meanwhile, the Corriere note that wingback Denzel Dumfries had a match of highs and lows all on his own.

On the one hand, the Dutchman was hugely impactful going forward.

Inter often found Dumfries in acres of space in the first half. His crosses were a threat, creating the first penalty. And then Dumfries won the second Inter penalty.

But Dumfries threw away a solid first half from a defensive perspective in the second half. He did not do well on Kenan Yildiz’s brace from the bench.
