Stade Brestois are gearing up to fight for their future in the Champions League this evening in the knockout play-off round, and it will be familiar opposition against Paris Saint-Germain, whom they have already faced twice this season domestically. Ahead of 100% French knockout tie, Brest Sporting director Gregory Lorenzi spoke to L’Équipe in a lengthy interview and revealed that the Breton club had the oppurtunity to sign Sporting Club de Portugal’s star striker Viktor Gyökeres. “There’s Viktor Gyökeres,” replied Lorenzi when speaking about his biggest regrets in his time as Brest sporting director. “His agent told me that I was the only French sporting director to have called him, when he was at Coventry. I was prepared to offer €4-5 million, but he wanted €8 million.”Instead, the former Brighton & Hove Albion and Coventry player moved to Portugal for a transfer fee worth €13m, with his current value estimated at around €75m, according to Transfermarkt.
