Kwame Poku's League One exploits with Peterborough United have been catching the eye of Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers.

The right-winger bagged 11 goals in 37 appearances for Posh last season and has furthered his reputation with seven goals and four assists in 14 league appearances this campaign.

According to Alan Nixon, Rovers could be part of a bidding war for the 23-year-old in January, with Peterborough keen to get the best possible price for their prized asset.

Blackburn started the season in fine fettle, with a run of seven games without defeat. However, the Lancashire club have struggled of late, with three defeats in their last five.

Although Eustace's men were scoring goals for fun at the start of the Championship campaign, they have only managed two in their last five.

FLW's Blackburn fan pundit, Toby Wilding, believes that Poku would add goals, assists and an injection of pace to a side that has been struggling to find the net.

"Yeah, this is a deal that I would be happy with," Toby told Football League World.

"You look at Rovers’ performances out wide recently, and it is clear that a lack of pace is something that does seem to be quite hampering at the minute, despite the fact that it is something that John Eustace wanted to add to his wide options in the summer.

"I think going out and getting Poku in January is something that would help, that his return in terms of goals and assists, is excellent.

"Again, I think that's something that Blackburn are lacking at the minute following Sammie Szmodics’ departure, that sort of place to go out and be a consistent, reliable source of goals and even assists as well.

"Beyond that, he's out of contract at Peterborough in the summer, so January is their last chance to cash-in, which can make them affordable.

"This is a deal, and a link, that I do like the sound of."

Blackburn and Peterborough have previous in the transfer market

If Rovers and Posh do complete a deal for Poku, then it would not be the first time the pair have done business in the transfer market.

In 2022, Blackburn signed Sammie Szmoics from Peterborough for an undisclosed fee. The attacking-midfielder went on to score 43 goals in 91 appearances for the club before moving to Ipswich Town this summer.

Toby believes that the deal to bring Szmodics to Ewood Park could place Blackburn in prime position for Poku's signature come January.

He said: "Obviously, I sort of mentioned Sammie Szmodics there. There is that connection with Blackburn and Peterborough after bringing Szmodics to Ewood Park from there, so that could potentially help as well."

With Poku's contract due to expire in the summer of 2025, a January departure looks likely for the winger, who could be available at a cut-price.

Posh do have a history of generating sizeable fees for their talent, with the club making significant profits from the deals for Ivan Toney, Dwight Gayle and Britt Assombalonga.

However, given Poku's contract situation, they would surely have to let the 23-year-old leave for less.

Blackburn are interested in a deal to bring Poku to Ewood Park, with the winger's current deal set to expire in the summer of 2025.

The 23-year-old already has seven goals this seasonPeterborough United.
