While it might still be early days in Lilywhite, Lize Kop is already feeling at home at Hotspur Way.
Joining us from Leicester City last month, the goalkeeper hasn’t had much time to settle into her new surroundings as, three days after putting pen to paper, she was straight into the starting XI for our first Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of the new year.
While she was unavailable for both our fixtures in the Women’s League and FA Cup, Lize has started our last three WSL games, helping us to victories over Leicester City and Crystal Palace, before that narrow defeat to Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Moving midway through the season, a busy schedule and lack of time with new team-mates are all potential hurdles when switching between teams, but the experienced shot-stopper has felt a warm welcome since arriving in north London.
“I have settled in really well so far, the girls are really nice, and they have been very helpful,” she told us, speaking on her arrival in the official Matchday Programme for the Manchester United clash.
“It made it so much easier because it’s not always easy to switch between teams, especially midway through a season, but I think the Club has been really helpful to help me settle here.
“It’s very important to get to know the players, we tried to talk a lot, especially in my first three days before the Leicester game, and now with the busy schedule, it has just been as important to get as familiar with each other, see what we expect from each other and see what the team expects from me.
“It has also been a warm welcome from the supporters, they’re very important during a game, you hear them all the time and, as a player, it’s so nice to hear them cheering you on, it’s great.”
When looking back at her debut in our colours, it couldn’t have gone much better for the Netherlands international.
In a very unique situation, Lize faced her former side Leicester City at Brisbane Road – just three days after completing a move to us – but she was unfazed in that moment, putting in a commanding performance to preserve a clean sheet on her first appearance for the Club.
“I’m not really going to have a debut like that again, playing against your old team and keeping a clean sheet,” she added.
“It’s always hard to play against team-mates you were training alongside just a week before, but I really enjoyed it, I think we dealt well with the situations, and it was a whole team effort to preserve the clean sheet as well… I wasn’t actually that busy so that was great.”
