Chelsea have impressed with their football and look a real threat going forward, scoring 17 goals with only Tottenham and Manchester City scoring more so far.

Hasselbaink on what Chelsea need to do to become title contenders

Chelsea’s squad is young and inexperienced and Maresca recently spoke about having a lack of leaders at the club.

The Blues have players that can grow into that role but it will take time, and the aim this season absolutely has to be to get back into the Champions League.

So far the Blues look like they are absolutely contenders to do that, but they will have to improve over the course of the season, with sides like Aston Villa looking very strong.

The ultimate aim is to get back to challenging for and winning the title, although Maresca has admitted his side aren’t contenders this season.

However, Hasselbaink has revealed what he feels his former club need to do to get back to challenging at the top of the table.

“As the manager [Maresca] has said, Chelsea are still a long, long way from Manchester City and Liverpool,” he told BoyleSports as cited on X.com.

“Having said that, they are moving in the right direction and it’s all about making the gap smaller and smaller as time goes on and that is exciting.

“Some things in football take time and other things happen very quickly, they need to let the manager work and get behind him. Football is about consistency and if they show that they could eventually compete for the title again.”

Consistency is certainly something Chelsea have lacked and is one of the main things Maresca will be looking to find this season and beyond.

The Blues have the quality in their squad to compete they just need to become gain that experience before they can compete with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.
