Lotthar Matthaus feels that Inter Milan should take advantage of the injuries that have hit Bayern Munich’s defense.

The legendary former midfielder, who played for both clubs, spoke to German outlet Abendzeitung, via FCInterNews. He also argued that Bayern can still go through in the second leg.

Both Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have some injury and fitness concerns heading into Wednesday evening’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg.

But of the two teams, it is undoubtedly Bayern who have the worst injury crisis at the moment.

Matthaus: “Inter Need To Exploit Injured Bayern Defense”

It is not only the number of injuries that is a problem for Bayern.

There is also the fact that so many of the injuries have seemed to concentrate in defense. That means that, personnel-wise, their backline looks very vulnerable.

Not least because Kim Min-Jae is himself coming back from some persistent Achilles tendon issues and hasn’t looked at his best physically.

Former Inter and Bayern midfielder Matthaus noted that “Four regular starters for Bayern are missing.”

He named “Jamal Musiala, Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, and Alphonso Davies.”

“These are four great players.”

“But even then, Bayern certainly still have a great chance of moving on,” Matthaus argued.

“In defense the only regular starter is Kim,” he argued. “And he’s also had issues of his own.”

The former midfielder argued that “If Inter are smart, they’ll attack Bayern.”

“Bayern don’t like to be pressed, and to not be given time to breathe,” he added.

Matthaus argued that “Bayern have to score a goal first, and then not concede.”

“Then the cards will be reshuffled. Bayern have patience, experience, and quality.”

Meanwhile, the former midfielder admitted that “there are two hearts beating in my chest” in this tie. “I have an incredible bond with Inter,” he said.
