Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is hopeful that midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu caught his injury in time against Roma this evening.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN at the end of the Serie A clash, via FCInterNews. He also stressed that it was a huge result for the Nerazzurri after they won 1-0.

Calhanoglu barely played ten minutes against Roma before he had to come off.

The Turkish international signalled to the Nerazzurri bench that he was not ok to continue.

And, just like that, Calhanoglu was replaced by Davide Frattesi. Nicolo Barella therefore moved into the holding midfield role.

This was a big blow for Inter considering that Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani were also out with injuries.

But if Calhanoglu was starting to feel a physical problem then he deemed that it would not be worth the risk in continuing.

Now, Inter coach Inzaghi will wait and see what Calhanoglu’s condition is.

The Nerazzurri face Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday. And then, next week, it is time for the Derby d’Italia against Juventus.

Inter Coach Inzaghi: “Hopefully Calhanoglu Caught Injury In Time” Vs Roma

Asked if he is worried about the injury to Calhanoglu as well as defender Francesco Acerbi, Inter coach Inzaghi replied “clearly.”

“Tonight we had some problems in midfield, because Asllani and Zielinski were out injured.”

“Calhanoglu wasn’t feeling great, but yesterday’s training session he did well. And he was fine in the warmup today.”

Inzaghi was hopeful, “I think he caught it in time.”

“He didn’t feel the adductor muscle go,” the Nerazzurri coach noted. “And the pain didn’t get worse.”

Of the win over Roma, Inzaghi said that “considering the difficulties we had, the guys did well.”

“The first half was balanced. And then once the game opened up, we had chances to double our lead.”

“We had to do so, because the result always remained in the balance,” said the Inter coach.

“But the Olimpico is always a difficult place to play. I’m happy with what the guys showed.”

“This year we’d only won against Udinese out of our away matches,” Inzaghi said.

“So it was important for us to win here. We were a team, and that’s what matters.”
