Simone Inzaghi feels that Inter Milan have been hard done by with a number of penalty decisions, but that there are “no excuses.”

The Nerazzurri coach gave his thoughts in a press conference after today’s Serie A draw against AC Milan, as reported by FCInterNews.

Inter felt strongly that they should have had a penalty against Milan today.

This was for an incident where Rossoneri defender Strahinja Pavlovic appeared to trip Nerazzurri striker Marcus Thuram.

Referee Daniele Chiffi did not spot the foul inside the penalty area in real time. He was also watching the sliding tackle from defender Theo Hernandez.

But subsequent replays did appear to show a clear foul on Thuram.

Therefore, it was surprising that VAR did not advise Chiffi to have another look at the incident. Based on the replays, it seemed very likely that with another look, he would have awarded Inter a spot kick.

Inzaghi: Penalty Controversy “Happens To Inter All The Time – But No Excuses”

Naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was not happy after today’s match.

The coach admitted that “I hadn’t noticed it on the pitch.”

“But it’s a negative incident for us,” he went on.

“It’s been happening a lot to us recently. But I don’t like excuses.”

“In the last while, there was the foul in Riyadh [in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Milan], the one on Thuram against Bologna, Baschirotto’s handball against Lecce, the foul on Lautaro against Empoli.”

“It’s like there are five or six of these things every Sunday. It’s right to bring them up, just as it’s right to say that Inter and Milan played a great derby.”

The Inter coach reflected on “Three disallowed goals, three times hitting the post.”

“And then a sensational penalty not to be given. And the players Milan have, in this kind of match.”

“It was a tricky match,” said Simone Inzaghi. “And we kept our heads.”

Meanwhile, the Inter coach also gave his thoughts on debutant Nicola Zalewski. The Polish international came off the bench. and assisted Inter’s equalizer less than 24 hours after signing.

“I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Zalewski,” Inzaghi said. “I’ve watched him over the years, and he’s fit in here very well.”

“In my view, he’ll give us a bit hand.”

And then Inzaghi also commented that “Acerbi has looked very good in training over the last few days.”

“Now there are three or four days until the match in Florence,” he said as far as Acerbi’s potential return to fitness.

“I’ll have to evaluate him. But I’m confident.”
