Inter Milan will be shadowboxing with Antonio Conte and Napoli in today’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They note that the match will finally remove the “asterisk” of a game in hand for the Nerazzurri.
On the pitch, Inter will take on Fiorentina this evening at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
And the Nerazzurri certainly will not be underestimating La Viola.
Fiorentina’s form has been a Jekyll-and-Hyde this season under Raffaele Palladino. But when they get the balance the right, they have proven a match for any team in Serie A.
Matches against Fiorentina – particularly away in Tuscany – have never been easy assignments for Inter.
But this evening’s match is not just against Fiorentina, in a sense. It also pits them indirectly with their chief Serie A title rivals Napoli.
That is the case each weekend as long as the Nerazzurri and the Partenpei remain locked together closely at the top of the table.

But normally, the two title rivals are effectively responding to one another’s results. This past weekend, for example, both slipped up in their respective matches against AC Milan and Roma.
This time, Inter are not having to react to a Napoli victory, or aiming to capitalize on the Partenopei dropping points.
Rather, this is a game in hand. Therefore, Inter will finally know their true standing relative to the Partenopei.
That is no small matter.
For weeks, Inter Milan have found themselves playing catch-up to Napoli in the table.
However, as long as they’ve been within three points, they’ve known that their fate is entirely in their hands.
If Inter are to win this evening, they’ll be level with Napoli at the top of the table.
A draw or a loss, on the other hand, would see the Nerazzurri have a concrete gap to make up.
This has been a constant asterisk in the pressure and mind games of the title race with the Napoli of Antonio Conte.
And after this evening, one way or the other, it will not longer be hanging over the top of the table.
