Inter Milan sleepwalked their way through yesterday’s Serie A match against Fiorentina until it became a nightmare, handing a big advantage to Napoli.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

On paper, yesterday’s match should not have been a particularly tricky one for Inter.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi had virtually his entire squad to choose from. Meanwhile, Fiorentina were in the midst of a brutal injury crisis, and unable to use January signings.

Looking at the two starting elevens it seemed as though Inter Milan would be able to outplay Fiorentina without too much difficulty. And then looking at the two benches, even moreso.

Three points would have taken Inter level with Napoli at the top of the Serie A table.

But looking at the actual match, the impression was almost that Inter Milan had taken the three points for granted.

The Nerazzurri were sluggish and sloppy in possession. Players like Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in particular just seemed to be going through the motions.

That lack of any real hunger or sharpness was something Fiorentina were able to exploit ruthlessly.

La Viola may not have had the same kind of technical quality or experience that Inter did on the pitch. But they were simply the more switched-on team.

And that means that Napoli could finally enjoy their three-point lead at the top of the table without an asterisk.

The Serie A title race has hardly ended. But it feels like the Partenopei have a more concrete advantage than they’ve ever had this season.
