Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco has been named as Italy’s outstanding performer in a 2-2 Nations League draw with Belgium.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, gave the 26-year-old a score of 7.5/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Over the last couple of years, Dimarco has established himself as a vital player for both Inter and Italy.

Dimarco has become Inter’s first-choice starter at left-wingback.

But if anything, the Italian international is even more important for his country. He is just about the first name on the teamsheet under Azzurri coach Luciano Spalletti.

Dimarco’s passing and crossing are at the heart of the way that Italy look to play under the former Inter, Napoli, and Roma coach.

And against Belgium yesterday, it was very clear why.

Yesterday’s Nations League match between Italy and Belgium proved to be a wild 2-2 draw.

The sending-off of Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini allowed the Red Devils to claw their way back into the match.

But prior to that moment near the end of the first half, it had been a fairly dominant display by the Azzurri.

And no player was at the heart of that more than Inter wingback Dimarco.

As the Gazzetta note, the 26-year-old decisively won his battle with Belgium winger Jeremy Doku. He marked the Manchester City man well in defense, and got space for himself in attack.

And as is often the case, Dimarco used the opportunities he had to get on the ball very well.

Firstly, it was the Nerazzurri wingback who assisted Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso for Italy’s opener.

Then, Dimarco was the architect of Italy’s second goal with an excellent switch of play.

On the other hand, the Gazzetta argue, Dimarco’s Inter teammates Alessandro Bastoni and Davide Frattesi did not impress.
